C-Reactive Protein
In just two weeks, inflammation markers like C-reactive protein plunged 45% in women at the Pritikin Center. No other lifestyle-change program or drug therapy, including statins, has proven to lower C-reactive protein so dramatically or rapidly. Metabolism, 53: 377, 2004.
Enhance Effectiveness of Statin Therapy/Reduce Statin Needs

Lower Blood Pressure To Normal, Medication-Free Levels

Control Diabetes and, For Many, Eliminate the Need For Drugs
A meta-analysis of 864 Type 2 diabetics found that 74% on oral agents left Pritikin free of such medications, their blood sugars in normal ranges; and 44% on insulin left insulin-free. Reverse the Metabolic Syndrome
Having the Metabolic Syndrome, a condition now epidemic in the U.S., puts one at major risk for diabetes and heart disease. What Works Long-Term?

What counts are long-term published results. The most comprehensive studies of long-term weight loss, part of the National Weight Control Registry from Brown University and University of Colorado, found that the vast majority of its 4,500+ successful dieters follow a diet, like Pritikin, that is low in fat and high in natural, fiber-rich carbohydrates. Like the Pritikin Program, the registry members also exercise daily. The members lost, on average, 66 pounds and have kept it off for six years. Less than 1% follow a high-protein, high-fat diet. Scientists at UCLA have published equally impressive long-term success rates on men and women following the Pritikin Program:
In two studies, each of which followed people on the Pritikin Program for 5 years, more than 85% reported they were successfully following the majority of Pritikin guidelines. They not only kept the weight off, they restored their health. A 5-year follow-up of 64 men who came to the Pritikin Longevity Center instead of undergoing heart bypass surgery that had been recommended by their doctors found that 80% never needed the surgery. Another 5-year study found that diabetics who had left the Pritikin Longevity Center with blood sugars normalized and completely off all diabetes medications never needed to take their medications again. Diabetes Care, 17: 1469, 1994.
